The Samsung Omnia (the i900 in Samsung parlance) is an amazing "bells and whistles"-heavy solid bar phone with a large 3.2-inch (diagonal) touchscreen. With more than a passing homage to Apple's iPhone the Omnia is only 12.5 mm thick but packs an awful lot inside its sleek black exterior.

Take your pick from "everything" (Latin) or "wish" (Arabic) as to the moniker's meaning but it does offer pretty much everything a business entertainment or camera buff would need in a smartphone. There is a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus face detection and geo-tagging video and a whopping 16 GB internal memory capacity. Moreover the screen auto-rotates so you can choose how you view Web pages and video content.

The browser software is Opera 9.5 for fast accurate page loading and the Omnia comes with Google search and Gmail functionality. There is A-GPS satellite navigation with a basic mapping tool but coupled with Wi-Fi or 3G for a fast start-up time: however you have to purchase the actual GPS application separately.

The touchscreen technology is identical to that used on the iPhone and you can grow to rely on and love this method of navigating a phone's features.
