The Nokia 5310 is a sound-oriented phone in a classic style but also full of features. A big attraction of the 5310 is XpessMusic: this is the Walkman equivalent for Nock addicts - but with a dedicated audio chip and better music playback buttons.

The 5310 is light (at 70g) and compact (103.8 x 44.7 x 9.9 mm) - yes it's that thin! It also sports a 16 million colour 240 x 320 pixel display and an acceptable 30 MB internal memory plus a MicroSD slot for further storage capacity.

Other features include SMS/MMS send and receive a 2 megapixel 1600 x 1200 pixel camera with 4 x digital zoom and video four games the usual calculator/alarm/vibrate/handsfree plus Bluetooth 2.0 wireless miniUSB WAP 2.0 GPRS and radio. You can record a personal voice message and then transmit it to compatible gadgets. It offers tri-band roaming across EGSM 900 1800 and 1900 MHz networks

Of course the music player is the highlight including MP3 Midi ACC eAAC and WMA formats with 18 hours stated playback time. Ringtones can be in True Tones and MP3 file formats

While super-thin the handset has a solid feel and with sleek aluminium sides it is elegant but modest in appearance. Nokia has put the 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top - a brilliant idea as it prevents the cables from becoming knotted up. Also the music control keys rise up perfectly off the phone's surface making them easy to locate when the phone is concealed in a purse or trouser pocket.

The 5310 is rated at over five hours of talk time and 300 hours on standby.
